Zetrix Launches First W3C-Approved Verifiable Credentials Platform

Zetrix, an L1 public blockchain platform, has launched an innovative, secure, easy, and interoperable credentials platform for verifying digital credentials.  Initially, the service will be open to users from China traveling overseas. Notably, this is the first global implementation of a Verifiable Credential that complies with the standards set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

According to Zetrix, the platform will enable the verification of digital credentials, beginning with a blockchain-based pilot programme for driver’s licenses. This is expected to greatly improve security and mitigate electronic license counterfeiting. Because blockchain data cannot be altered, those doing the verification can be assured that the VCs and all of the document’s contents are true and genuine.

Chinese citizens will have the option to digitise their national ID or driver’s license and store it as a Verifiable Credential (“VC”) on Xinghuo International, the global hub for China’s public blockchain. Any foreign verifier seeking to validate relevant identification or driving licence data according to their requirements can do so by presenting the National ID or driving licence VC through Zetrix, which is integrated with Xinghuo.

The system is supported by Zetrix’s Self Sovereign Identity (SSI) framework, which presents a strong defence against fraud and forgery. Furthermore, it enables real-time verification of digitally-encrypted documents in the form of Verifiable Credentials.

Documents digitised as Verifiable Credentials not only guarantee authenticity, but also provide the option to selectively disclose or confirm data. For example, users can choose to enable the verification of their home location or age without disclosing their full address or date of birth. This prevents sharing raw user data unless absolutely required, which is a key advantage.

Zetrix has also integrated a multi-chain e-wallet that can hold its native tokens and is compatible with multiple blockchains, including Ethereum. This functionality improves user experience, streamlines cross-chain transactions and makes identification and document verification easier in across various blockchain ecosystems.

Aside from IDs and driver’s licenses, Zetrix say that its Verifiable Credentials platform will soon start supporting other crucial credential documents held by individuals or companies.
