peaq Network has announced the integration of Silencio Network, a community-powered network that compensates users for sharing hyper-local noise pollution data. The annual global cost of noise pollution is estimated to be trillions of dollars due to its effects on health and quality of life. In order to crowd-source the information necessary to address this situation, Silencio is employing Web3 approaches and citizen-led science.
At its current rate of expansion, Silencio Network, one of the world’s fastest-growing DePINs, will have amassed 1 million devices by 2024, with 35,000+ smartphones serving as noise sensors in 176 countries. Silencio uses cutting-edge Machine Learning and AI to translate sound data into useful information.
In addition, Silencio can help city planners optimise urban acoustics. These may include things such as creating a detailed soundscape for potential homeowners, rating the acoustics of restaurants and hotels, and providing concrete evidence in response to noise complaints. In addition to this, it can be a very helpful tool for analysing one’s health and keeping tabs on one’s exposure to potentially dangerous noise levels.
Silencio is decentralising the rewards system that powers its DePIN by using peaq as its layer-1 blockchain backbone. In order to combat noise pollution, Silencio has developed a mobile application available on both iOS and Android, that allows anyone to contribute by collecting real-time noise data in their area using their smartphone.
Users who connect their devices using this DePIN will be rewarded in the DePIN’s native $NOISE token for contributing to the advancement of science, commerce, and policy. With this approach, scientists all around the world can contribute real-time information from their own communities to a worldwide effort to solve a pressing problem.
Silencio network’s first step is to use autonomous peaq IDs in its application. For security reasons, it will additionally keep a hash of the user-collected data on peaq. To further decentralise the token awards for the community, Silencio will use peaq’s reward platform.
With its unique economics rewarding device owners and other network stakeholders, peaq mainnet will enable Silencio’s incentive mechanisms as a layer-1 blockchain for real-world apps and DePINs. Silencio’s scalability will be bolstered by peaq’s other machine-oriented technologies like Machine DeFi.
“peaq’s machine-focused functions make it easier for DePIN companies to realize their projects quickly, and its machine rewards amplify our own incentive mechanism,” says Thomas Messerer, CEO of Silencio Network.
