- Summary:
- y00ts is an NFT profile picture collection by DeGods. This is the project's second migration this year, having previously been on Solana.
The y00ts NFT profile picture (PFP) project by DeLabs is moving to the Ethereum mainnet to operate alongside the company’s more popular DeGods project. DeLabs has not, however, announced when exactly the switch will take place. Already this year, the project has migrated from Solana to Polygon, and the team behind it has pledged to give back every penny of the grant money they received from the latter.
The case for moving to Ethereum
When y00ts moved to Polygon earlier in the year, it stated that it intended to use the $3 million grant money to hire more staff and channel some of it towards expanding the project. However, four months down the line, the project has decided that moving to Ethereum is the best option because it would be more beneficial for both y00ts and DeGods communities to be on the same chain. Despite leaving their chain, the Polygon team says that y00ts was instrumental in developing Polygon’s NFT pfp ecosystem.
“We tried our best to make it work but we just need to bring our 2 communities together,” DeLabs founder Rohun “Frank” Vora tweeted following the announcement.
Members of the NFT community had a variety of reactions to the announcement of the move to Ethereum. The decision was met with mixed reactions from experts in the field, with some praising the move and others expressing alarm over the impact of the loss of such a significant project to Polygon’s NFT prospects.
The first DeGods was a Solana-based collection of 10,000 PFP-styled NFTs; the second project, Y00ts, features 15,000 NFT Yeti artworks with varying characteristics. Since y00ts is already a frontrunner in the NFT industry, it stands to gain from the increased security provided by a larger chain like Ethereum. Ethereum is the undisputed leader in the NFT industry, with 737 NFT projects, while Polygon only has 78 collections. Some of the most well-known NFT projects are built on Ethereum, too, including Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), CryptoPunks, Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), and Azuki.
