Today, gaming developer First Light Games announced the closure of a $5 million seed fund raising for its P2E mobile game, Blast Royale. The funds were raised through a private sale of the game’s native token. The game is currently in its development stages. Its testnet release will be out at the end of Q2 of 2022. The round was co-led by Animoca Brands and Mechanism Capital. Other contributors included Dragonfly Capital, DeFiance Capital, Play Ventures Future Fund, Double Peak, Polygon, C² Ventures, Morningstar Ventures, DWeb3, Merit Circle, Ancient 8, AvocadoDAO. Also, there were contributions by angel investors, including Santiago R Santos and Nick Chong.
The funds raised will be used to continue to develop the game, attract top talent, and grow the game community. First Light Games is on a mission to develop Blast Royale as one of the best gaming titles, providing compelling, fun gameplay. In the end, the aim is to create the ultimate Battle Royale Web3 game. Neil McFarland, CEO of First Light Games, expressed his delight that the game had backing from leading influencers in gaming.
It is not surprising that First Light Games has attracted such big names. The company is behind other successful games such as Merge Dragons, Street Fighter and Monument Valley. Also, it focuses on quality over quantity. Specifically, it offers modern live operations that are a must-have in the F2P market but mostly missing from the P2E space.
Additionally, it employs NFTs Rusting and Limited Replication systems. This ensures that the market isn’t saturated with NFTs, thus creating more value. “ When a space like crypto gaming is in its infancy, it’s incredibly important to back strong thinkers who shape how the space evolves”, said Eva Wu, Principal, Mechanism Capital.
Built on the Polygon L2 chain, Blast Royale is a blockchain P2E game by First Light Games. It boasts of being among the first blockchain-based battle royale games. Also, it is accommodative of both active gamers and non-gamers. The company has an impressive record in the gaming world. It has created other popular games like Merge Dragons, Street Fighter and Monument Valley.
Players can equip their Blast Royale characters using NFTs and participate in Battle Royales to earn Craft Spice (CS), the in-game token. Notably, the game has two tokens. First, there’s’ Craft Spice (CS), which powers the in-game economy and is the reward currency for players. Secondly, there’s $BLST, which enables the creation of new NFTs and is the official currency of the Blast Royale Marketplace.
Mechanism Capital is an investment firm that invests in crypto assets in both the primary and secondary markets across all stages. The firm has invested heavily in blockchain projects, and its portfolio has more than 20 investments in blockchain gaming companies.
With more than 150 investments in NFT-related firms and decentralized initiatives, Animoca Brands is a global pioneer in the field of gamification and blockchain games.
